Making a Sweater that Fits

Skill Level: Intermediate

Required Skills: This class is suitable for knitters and crocheters.

Knitters: Knitting, purling, basic increasing and decreasing

Crocheters: Foundation crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, basic increasing and decreasing



New Techniques: Making and measuring a gauge swatch, taking your measurements, identifying the best fit in a pattern, and more



Workshop Description: Whether you knit or crochet, the process for getting the right fit in a garment is the same. Let’s explore the elements that determine the final size of your sweater. We will start with a basic pattern and determine the right size to follow by taking personal measurements, making and reading a swatch, and adjusting needles and hooks for a perfect fit.

Note: Grab all of your stitchy friends because this fun workshop brings together our knitting and crochet friends!Homework: If desired, choose one of the patterns below or choose one of your own. Using the yarn you intend to use for the sweater, make a 4”x4” gauge swatch as described in the pattern. Bring your blocked swatch to class.

Materials: Yarn specified for your pattern or smooth light colored worsted weight yarn (#4)

Swatch as described in the homework

Needles or hooks in full sets so you have a variety of sizes to choose from

Basic stitching supplies: stitch markers, scissors, tapestry needle, etc.



This class is 3 hours long.
